Athens Blog Friday July 1,2011
After much discussion last night, Jerry decides to head up to Olympic stadium to see if Molly is there and if she is available to sightsee or has other plans.  The group is very disorganized up there, and it turns out that she is there and sitting around. Jerry signs her out, and leads another group of one coach and 3 athletes into the Acropolis area, where the kids and I meet up with him.  We decide that it is to steep and crazy for Molly to enter the actual Acropolis(it is apparently cruise ship day in the port of Athens day, and the whole area is NUTS!) so we just walk all around it and talk to her about it and show her our favourite sights.  We end up touring a tiny museum called The Greek Folk Art museum, which had displays basically on all the tools and old machines used to build Athens and work it as it used to be(farming, grapes, etc.) It was in a tiny building on the side of a hill with rooms going up and down and around. So charming and cool, we really felt like we were in an undiscovered gem, and we were the only ones there, a huge contrast to the Acropolis area!  We headed down to the Plaka, and introduced Molly to Vicky at the shop where we bought the SO t-shirts (a thinly veiled attempt to spend more there? I think so!) did some shopping, brought her to the chess shop to meet Stavros, and then into a taverna for lunch. They had a lovely back garden and a moussaka special, a winning combo!  Then it was time for Molly to meet up with Coach Sam and head out. We will see her tomorrow morning for her 5000 and her relay. That will be exciting!
We headed home to rest for a bit out of the sun and the kids enjoy Kungfu Panda on the computer, first movie they have watched. Jer has found an International Herald Tribune and is happily reading the news for the first time since the trip began. Me? I’m brewing coffee and having a bowl of cereal of course--what did you think?!
