March 18/19 The School Play

Saint Johns International School presents
The Little Prince by the middle school
Well the day has finally arrived and all the hard work and long hours are paying off. The cast and crew are ready for e big moment! Charlotte and I are pulling triple duty, helping with the make-up, working the bar and being a family cheering section! Go us! My job on the makeup team is to put on the white face to start the mime look, then each actor moves on to Charlotte, who powders them up to set the white. She is very gentle and asks each person who sits down if they are excited...it is darling! Then the actors go on to more skilled moms to get the lips, eyes and cheeks. Charlotte and I are both very proud!
Out in the lobby the Art Support parents group has a bar set up with wine, beer, champagne, soft drinks, water and snacks. The gal running it decides that the shy quiet girl from Jersey would be the perfect person to sell Tombola. I know, I had know idea what it was either! Tombola is a type of raffle, this one is a huge glass vase filled with little gold boxes, which each contain two delicious Belgian chocolates. And some lucky boxes also have a number, which corresponds to a prize which you win. They are five euros each and even if you don't get a prize...the chocolate is worth it! The money raised goes to a scholarship fund..nice,right? The girls and I are excellent at this job, and have fun yelling out "TOMBOLA" as we walk through the crowd. Try yelling it out right now, it's a fun word!
Reel me back in here...you thought you were going to hear about Danny's play right? Sorry!
The play was spectacular. The director/ drama teacher, Mr. Larry Hicks basically had the students do ensemble theatre, they contributed to the development of this unique presentation of the story and they made it their own. There were 5 Little Princes and several other "main" roles, but as soon as the actor was done with that bit, they melted right back into the ensemble, who used mime to portray emotion, scenery, sound, weather, etc. What a creative interesting show. Danny plays the Pilot, and that was perfect for him. He spoke his lines loud and clear, and he was the tallest actor, so it was good to have him as this adult character.

The Pilot flying in his airplane and  the crash!

You could tell by the way he did everything in the show that he enjoyed his time as a bit of the wind as much as he enjoyed his solo speaking part. I am so happy he tried out and became part of this so quickly after we moved to Belgium and proud too!

Curtain calls!
